First Time in Canggu: The Survival Guide No One Tells You

Berawa vs Batu Bolong vs Pererenan: Where Should You Stay in Canggu in 2026?

If you Google "where to stay in Canggu" you get 3 names: Berawa, Batu Bolong, Pererenan. Everyone says their area is best.

But which is really best if you want to stay 1 week, 1 month, or 3 months? If you want to work, surf, gym, eat well, and not waste life in traffic?

This guide from Aviator Bali Apartment Hotel, Jl. Tegal Sari Gang Kana No.59, Berawa, Canggu is honest comparison, because we have guests who tried all 3 areas and then moved to Berawa.

And we will be honest about what Aviator Bali has and doesn't have: We are apartment hotel with full kitchen, workspace, pool, daily housekeeping, secure parking, quiet gang. We do NOT have restaurant, gym inside, or pet friendly stay. Everything you need is 2-4 mins outside within walk.

1. BERAWA — THE BALANCED ONE (Where Aviator Bali Is)

Vibe: Mix of local families + expats + digital nomads. Not too party, not too isolated. Most livable.

Location: Center of Canggu. 2 mins to Berawa Beach, 3 mins to Finns & Atlas Beach Club, 2-4 mins to all gyms (Bambu, Obsidian, Wrong Gym), 2 mins to Pepito Supermarket, 2-3 mins to work cafes (Baked, Hungry Bird).

Traffic: Least traffic in Canggu because small area. You can walk to gym, cafe, beach. No need scooter for daily.

Food: Has both cheap local warungs (Warung Bu Mi Rp 35k) and healthy cafes (Baked Rp 120k) within 2 mins. Because local families still live in Gang Kana where Aviator Bali is, warung prices still local.

Safety: Gang Kana Berawa is local residential gang, well-lit, families, safe to walk at 10 PM with phone in hand. Scooter parking secure at Aviator Bali.

Rent: Rp 20m-28m per month for apartment hotel like Aviator Bali (all inclusive). Villa Rp 25m-40m.

Best for: Digital nomads, remote workers, couples, people who stay 1-3 months and want to be productive + have fun.

Cons: No rice field view (Pererenan has). Beach is not as white as Pererenan, but has best beach clubs.

2. BATU BOLONG — THE PARTY ONE

Vibe: Party, backpacker turned influencer, loud, crowded, young (19-25 years old), drunk at night.

Location: North of Berawa, 10-15 mins scooter from Berawa in traffic. Main street Jl. Batu Bolong is super crowded 24/7.

Traffic: WORST traffic in Bali. Jl. Batu Bolong jammed 3 PM - 9 PM every day. 15 mins to go 1 km. If you live in Batu Bolong and want to go to Berawa beach club, you need 20 mins in traffic.

Food: Mostly expensive Instagram cafes, no cheap warungs. Nasi campur Rp 60k (vs Rp 35k in Berawa).

Gym: No good gym inside Batu Bolong, you need to go to Berawa for Bambu or Obsidian (20 mins traffic).

Rent: More expensive than Berawa for worse quality. Rp 25m-35m for small apartment with no kitchen.

Best for: First-time tourists who want to party every night, 19-22 years old, short stay 1 week.

Cons: Noisy until 2 AM, construction everywhere, traffic, overpriced, hard to be productive.

Our guests who moved from Batu Bolong to Berawa at Aviator Bali say: "I was partying every night in Batu Bolong and not working. In Berawa I party 2x per week and work productive."

3. PERERENAN — THE ISOLATED ONE

Vibe: Quiet, rice fields, beautiful villas, isolated, new money, far.

Location: West of Berawa, 8-15 mins from Berawa depending on traffic.

Traffic: At 5 PM, Pererenan road to Berawa jammed. You need car or scooter to go anywhere.

Food: Almost no warungs, only expensive villas and cafes for tourists. No Pepito near, must drive to Berawa for supermarket.

Gym: No gym in Pererenan, must drive to Berawa (15 mins).

Rent: Villa Rp 30m-60m for beautiful rice field view, but you pay for isolation.

Best for: Honeymoon, family with car, yoga retreat, people who want isolation and have car + driver.

Cons: Isolated, need transport for everything, dark road at night, not good for meeting people or productive work.

Our guests who moved from Pererenan to Berawa say: "Pererenan beautiful but I felt isolated and spent Rp 2m per month on GoCar. In Berawa I walk everywhere."

COST COMPARISON REAL 2026:

Berawa (Aviator Bali base):
Accommodation Rp 20m-28m + Food Rp 4m-6m (cook in kitchen + warung) + Scooter Rp 1.2m + Gym Rp 1.5m + Entertainment Rp 2m =
Rp 27.7m-38.7m

Batu Bolong:
Accommodation Rp 25m-35m + Food Rp 8m-12m (no kitchen, must eat out) + Scooter Rp 1.5m + Gym Rp 1.5m + GoCar to Berawa beach club Rp 1m + Entertainment Rp 4m =
Rp 41m-54m (more expensive, less productive)

Pererenan:
Accommodation Rp 30m-60m + Food Rp 8m-12m + Car/GoCar Rp 3m-5m + Gym Rp 1.5m + Entertainment Rp 3m =
Rp 45.5m-81.5m (most expensive, most isolated)

WHY DIGITAL NOMADS CHOOSE BERAWA IN 2026?

Data from our 500+ long-stay guests at Aviator Bali:

  • 70% tried Batu Bolong first, then moved to Berawa after 2 weeks because too noisy and traffic.
  • 20% tried Pererenan first, then moved to Berawa because too isolated.
  • 10% came directly to Berawa and stayed.

Reason: Berawa is only area where you can WALK to gym, cafe, supermarket, beach within 2-4 mins. No other area in Canggu has this.

  • 1 week party holiday, 19 years old, first time in Bali: Batu Bolong
  • 1 week honeymoon, want rice field villa, have car: Pererenan
  • 1 week to 3 months, want to work + surf + gym + eat well + meet people + be productive: Berawa

Base in Berawa at Aviator Bali, visit Batu Bolong and Pererenan for day trips, but live in Berawa.
