Why a Balinese Entrance Is More Than a Door

Healthy Life in Berawa: How to Stay in Shape While Living in Canggu

Canggu has a dirty secret. Everyone comes here to get healthy, and everyone leaves 5 kilos heavier. Smoothie bowls at 11 AM, Nasi Goreng at 3 PM, pizza and cocktails at sunset at Finns every day. After 2 weeks, you feel bloated, tired, and unproductive.

The problem is not Canggu. The problem is where you stay and what routine you build.

If you stay in Batu Bolong, you are trapped in traffic, you can't get to the gym consistently, and you are surrounded by party food. If you stay in a hotel room with no kitchen, you HAVE to eat out for every meal. Healthy eating becomes impossible.

Berawa in 2026 has quietly become the health capital of Bali, not because of marketing, but because all the best gyms, yoga studios, and healthy cafes moved here. And if you base yourself right, you can build a real, sustainable healthy routine.

This guide is written from Jl. Tegal Sari Gang Kana No.59, Berawa, Canggu, where we host hundreds of people who actually manage to leave Canggu fitter than when they arrived. Here is how they do it.

6:00 AM - The Morning That Defines Everything

The healthiest people in Berawa are awake at 6 AM. Not because they are motivated, but because Berawa Beach at 6 AM is magic. Just 2 minutes from our area, the beach is wide, flat, black sand mixed with grey, and completely empty except for joggers, local fishermen, and 5-6 surfers. No beach club music. No sellers. Just waves.

You have two perfect options. Option 1: Run 3km on Berawa Beach barefoot. The sand is soft and perfect for knees. Option 2: 20 minutes of yoga or stretching right on the beach. No need for a studio. The sunrise over Berawa is your studio. Do this every morning for a week and your sleep, digestion, and stress will change completely.

7:30 AM - Breakfast: The Kitchen Advantage

This is where 90% of people fail. They stay in a hotel room with no kitchen. So they go to Crate Cafe and order a Rp 120k smoothie bowl with granola, peanut butter, and extra sugar. It looks healthy on Instagram but it is 600 calories of sugar.

The people who stay healthy in Berawa have one thing: a kitchen. At Aviator Bali Apartment Hotel, every apartment has a full kitchen with fridge, stove, and water dispenser. What does a healthy long-stay person do?

They go to Pepito Supermarket (2 minutes) or Frestive (3 minutes) and buy: eggs, sourdough bread, avocado, oats, fresh berries, Greek yogurt, and coffee beans from Expat Roasters. Breakfast at home: 2 eggs, avocado toast, black coffee, and a small fruit bowl. Cost: Rp 35k. Calories: 350. Time: 10 minutes. You know exactly what you put in your body.

If you want to eat out, Berawa has the best healthy breakfast cafes that locals actually go to, not tourists: Nude, The Shady Shack, and Copenhagen. At 7:30 AM there is no queue. Order a poached eggs with spinach and mushrooms. Avoid the sugary smoothie bowl trap.

9:00 AM - The Gym Ecosystem: Why Berawa Won

In 2023, all the best gyms moved from Batu Bolong to Berawa. Why? Rent in Batu Bolong became insane and traffic made it impossible for members to come daily.

Now within a 2-4 minute scooter ride from Tegal Sari, Berawa, you have:

  • Bambu Fitness (2 mins): The most aesthetic open-air gym in Bali. Bamboo structure, surrounded by rice fields. Best for functional training and community. Monthly Rp 1.5m.
  • Obsidian (3 mins): The hardcore bodybuilding gym. Best equipment in Bali. If you are serious about lifting, this is it. Monthly Rp 1.8m.
  • The Wrong Gym (4 mins): Most Instagrammable, but also very serious. Great classes, great vibe.
  • Jungle Athletic (3 mins): Best for CrossFit and classes.

The key is consistency. If your gym is 15 minutes away in Pererenan or Umalas, you will skip it when it rains or when traffic is bad. If your gym is 2 minutes away in Berawa, you go every day. That is the difference between staying in shape and not.

12:00 PM - Lunch: The Hidden Healthy Warungs

Forget the Rp 140k chicken Caesar salad. The healthiest lunch in Berawa is hidden.

Go to Warung Suka (2 mins from Tegal Sari), the vegetarian warung. They make Lawar made from jackfruit, long beans, grated coconut, and tempeh. 8 different vegetables on one plate. Price Rp 30k. 100% plant-based, high fiber, high protein.

Or go to the small stall behind Pepito that sells grilled fish + steamed vegetables + brown rice for Rp 45k. Real protein, real vegetables, no oil.

And because you have a kitchen in your apartment hotel, you can also meal prep. Grill 500g chicken breast on Sunday, store in your fridge, and you have protein for 3 days. Try doing that in a hotel room.

3:00 PM - The Danger Zone & How to Avoid It

3 PM in Canggu is the danger zone. You are tired from work, you are hot, and you crave sugar and iced coffee with sugar. Every cafe sells Biscoff lattes and croissants.

The healthy Berawa routine at 3 PM is: Coconut water from a local stall (Rp 15k, natural electrolytes) + 20-minute walk in the quiet Gang Kana area where Aviator Bali is located. Our gang is still quiet, with small rice fields, local houses, and frangipani trees. No traffic. You can walk, listen to a podcast, and reset. No need to buy a Rp 80k iced latte.

6:00 PM - Sunset Without Alcohol

You don't need a cocktail to enjoy sunset. The healthiest long-stay people in Berawa have a rule: alcohol only 2x per week. On other days, sunset at Berawa Beach with a coconut or sparkling water. You sit on the sand, you watch surfers, you watch the sun go down behind the ocean, and you go home feeling clear, not bloated. Your sleep that night will be 10x better.

If you want to be social, go to Mari Beach Club or La Brisa but order a mocktail. No one cares. Everyone is too focused on sunset.

The Real Secret: Accommodation Determines Health

We have hosted enough people to see a pattern.

People who stay in a hotel room for a month: Gain weight. Eat out every meal. No routine. No kitchen. No gym consistency because of traffic.

People who stay in a big private villa: Start strong, then get lazy. Villa is too big, pool maintenance is stressful, electricity bill is scary, so they keep AC off and sleep badly. Kitchen is huge but they never use it because there is no supermarket nearby in Pererenan.

People who stay in an apartment hotel in Berawa like Aviator Bali: Stay healthy. Why?

  1. Full kitchen = control over food
  2. 2 mins to best gyms = consistency
  3. 2 mins to beach = morning routine
  4. 2 mins to supermarket = easy healthy shopping
  5. Daily housekeeping + 24-hour manager = no stress, good sleep
  6. Separate bedroom with blackout curtains = perfect sleep quality

Health in Canggu is not about willpower. It is about environment design. Base yourself in Berawa, in a place that supports a healthy routine, and health becomes automatic.

Canggu can be the healthiest place you have ever lived, or the unhealthiest. The choice is not what you eat. The choice is where you stay.
